Knowledge Sharing Program

  • The KSP is designed to assist veterinarians new to the field of research, teaching or testing in becoming more knowledgeable of laboratory animal medicine and the related community.

  • The KSP is intended to support veterinarians who may feel professionally isolated, including: part-time laboratory animal veterinarians , consulting veterinarians , veterinarians working in small or single-person programs.

  • This program is offered in English and French.

Program Structure

  • Qualifying individuals will be offered the opportunity to be paired with an experienced member working in a similar environment.

  • The KSP will rely on volunteers from the CALAM membership.

  • There is no set program although the following can assist participants in setting up their customized arrangement:

Methods of Communication

  • Methods of communication can be in-person meetings (when convenient), telephone calls, other methods of real-time communication, e.g. Team, Zoom, FaceTime, etc., email and texting.

Other Considerations
  • Inviting the new member to an ACC meeting; in-person or virtual.

  • Giving the new member a tour of their animal facility

  • Getting a tour of the new member’s animal facility

  • Sharing documents e.g. ACC forms, SOPs, etc.

  • Recommending relevant articles, web links, training opportunities, etc.

  • Meeting at a continuing education event e.g. CALAS, AALAS, CCAC Worksop, etc.





Eligibility: KSP is open to CALAM members.

Enrolment

  • Current and new members interested in participating are asked to send an email to membership@calam-acmal.org providing their contact information and area of practice.

Partnership Expectations
  • The expectation is for the partnership to last at least 12 months.

  • At a minimum the seasoned partner is expected to reach out to the new member within a week or two and arrange for an opportunity to talk in real time.

  • During this initial communication the team should agree to the timing and method(s) of their future communications.

  • It is hoped that at least several conversations would take place over the coming months.

  • If either of the participants encounter any challenges they are encouraged to contact the KSP Coordinator and seek assistance.
